Cairo Food Pantry Policies & Procedures

Effective July 1, 2010

The Cairo Food Pantry provides food assistance to the residents of the Cairo-Durham School district 3 times in a 6 month period.

To register or re-register (families that have previously registered with us must renew their registration), visit the pantry during normal operating hours (Tuesdays, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. and Fridays, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.)

What to bring the first time you visit the Cairo Food Pantry:

  • Photo ID (required for each visit)
  • Proof of address – rental receipt with recent date; current lease; utility bill or other piece of official mail.  A license is no longer acceptable.
  • Some ID for each person in the household receiving food.  (ex. SS Card, Medical Insurance Card, School Records, Letter from DSS, etc)

Additional Information:

  • Your information must be verified annually (or upon request) for continued service.
  • Special Circumstances will be decided by the Director.
  • Once a year we will serve any person or family that is in need regardless of residence.
  • We understand that there are circumstances when people cannot come to the food pantry themselves.  In such a case the food can be picked up by another person under the following conditions:
    • The recipient of the food must have already registered in person.
    • The person picking up the food must show the photo ID of the recipient of the food.

Donations

1. Donations of both money and food are greatly appreciated. Food may be brought during give-away hours, church office hours, or on the 1st Sunday of each month food donations may be placed in the cart provided in the Narthex during worship services. For large food donations (often from groups), please make arrangements with Coordinator Joyce Notarnicola. Monetary donations may be mailed or brought to the church (checks payable to Cairo Food Pantry), or placed in the offering during worship services.

2. No Clothing Donations are needed at this time. Clothing may be donated to the Salvation Army or Good Will.

When donating food, please keep the following in mind: Due to NYS Health Dept. regulations and for liability reasons, we do not distribute: out-dated food, pkgs that are opened, cans that are dented along the seal so air can get in. Since this food must be discarded, the church is paying for the disposal of these items.
