Advent & Lenten services

PAUSE For Advent

Traditional Advent services with the Lord's Supper are held the 3 weeks prior to Christmas.

Wednesday Afternoons 1-2:00 pm

Wednesday Evenings 7-8:00 pm

The Christian Church's season of Advent has a penitential dimension, but also emphasizes the joy-filled hope of the coming of the Lord, past, present and future. Although Christmas has become largely a secular holiday in our culture, observing Advent helps us reclaim Christmas as a celebration of the birth of Christ.

PAUSE For Lent

The Christian Church’s season of Lent Is a period of time set aside to help us prepare to celebrate the death and resurrection of our Lord for us. Lent prepares us for Easter. Beginning on Ash Wednesday, the season of Lent sets aside 40 days (not counting Sundays) to review, evaluate, change our lives and practice new behavior appropriate for a member of God’s family.

Ash Wednesday - Our traditional worship services are held at 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm and includes the imposition of ashes for those who desire, as well as the Lord's Supper. This begins our series of Wednesday evening Lenten services. Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2010

Maundy Thursday - Held during Holy Week, just before Easter, we gather for worship from 7-8:15 pm to commemorate the Lord's Supper, to examine the events of Jesus' Last evening with His apostles, and the meaning of these for our lives.

Good Friday - Held during Holy Week, we gather together as God's family to remember and reflect upon Jesus' sacrifice for us:

Weather-Related Service Cancellations

As we approach the winter months, we are registered with a service that announces cancellations of church services or schedule changes, giving us the option to cancel an event, classes, or a worship service. In the event of a cancellation, specific info will appear on these radio & TV stations and their websites: TV channels 6 (WRGB), 10 (WTEN), 13 (WNYT) & 23 (WXXA), and radio stations WFLY-FLY92, WGY-810, WRVE-The River, WYJB-B-95.5.

Please Note: Resurrection Lutheran Church Sunday worship services have ALWAYS been held (not cancelled) over the past 15 years, and it is HIGHLY possible that NO services will be canceled this winter. However, mid-week PAUSE services (including PAUSE for Advent & Lent) are automatically cancelled if the weather is inclement.
